Easter: Decorate FANCY for LESS!

Hi all! I had a fan request for me to make a post on how to decorate 'fancy' for Easter but staying THRIFTY!!!  Also some recipes! So,... I got to work on this and now it is ready for you all to get some inspiration from- or copy. Enjoy!

Remember my 3 biggest tips:
  • #1: ALWAYS decorate your ceilings!
  • #2: ALWAYS keep food at different levels/layers.
  • #3: FIND things around the house that you can use for your decorations

Look around your house if you have wicker/wooden boxes/baskets that you can flip upside down and use as a plate layer- or as a rolls basket! Find curtains from your kids rooms/bathrooms, etc that will match the coloring!

Use PLASTIC TABLECLOTHS from Walmart for $.97 each! Buy the spring colors: (Pink, Purple, Blue, Green, and Yellow) Cut them in half and hang them up on the ceilings!

Use TISSUE PAPER from Walmart for $.97 each! (I used yellow) (Picture Step-by Step Tutorial coming up soon!) -- if you don't want to wait for the tutorial: Open the tissue paper- cut it into 4 or 6 little squares. Fold them back and forth like you're making a fan. Use a FLOSS string to tie the middle. Then, use scissors to make spears on both ends of the tissue paper. After that, you can open up the tissue paper one by one making a ball!

BUY long pink flowers from Michael's for $2.49 each! (ON SALE!) Use that as a centerpiece for your main table! It makes your table look elegant!

Layer up your plates! It makes the table have some 3-D effect to it. The bottom is a "charger" it is one of the most important accent you should have for your table/parties! You can find colorful flower ones like I got at Michael's for $1.99 each-- BUT if you find ones with a little dent or stratches in the middle of it you can show your cashier and you will get them for only $1.00 EACH!

You can't forget the centerpieces for the plates itself! I used plastic eggs and a gluestick to glue on the feathers from my daughter's boa with chocolate chips for the eyes. Very easy!

For elegant tables, you have to have 2 different glasses. I used canning jars with ribbons around them to give them some color! (One glass can be for juice/wine/etc.. and the other for water.) Top them with sliced lemons or strawberries!

For kids tables- be sure you have something fun and colorful! I found "Chickadees" cheese crackers at TARGET for only about $1.50! I put them in Ziploc bags in the corner and cut them and used a green ribbon to make them look like carrots.

You should ALWAYS separate your food from the table where you all will eat. Food bowls and plates can clutter up the table! Here is my drinks/dessert table. (No desserts there yet- and the table will be a little bit bigger) I will have:

  • Clear Juice container (ON SALE AT TARGET THIS WEEK FOR $18!!) with pink lemonade and sliced lime, lemons, strawberries, and blackberries.
  • On a 3-tiered tower: Lemon Bars, Rice Krispies, ChowMein Cookies shaped like nests.
  • Cupcake Tower with chicken cupcakes, nest cupcakes, and spring cupcakes.
  • Random candy in clear containers.

My main food dishes will be on the "bar" counter-- (Recipe LINKS coming soon!)
  • Wild Cherry Pepsi Ham
  • Scalloped Potatoes from Stratch
  • Pastel Deviled Eggs
  • Asparagus
  • Parmesan Herbed Carrots
  • Homemade Rolls
  • Fruit Salad

If you have any questions or need some more suggestions/ideas-- ask me! :-)
