Skip the kitchen table and head outside. Wait until a lovely day in early spring to decorate your eggs—outside! Get all your materials organized and then pick a spot outdoors. Try working in the grass, on the driveway with a tarp or some old towels, or on your deck. There's less worry about the mess in the great outdoors, and the clean-up will be easier, too!
Neaten the process with plastic bags. If you have younger kids, try using zippered plastic bags. Just pour a small amount of dye in a bag (freezer bags work best since they are stronger and less likely to burst) and insert an egg. Let your little ones gently roll the egg around inside the bag. Once they have created their masterpieces, carefully remove the egg from the bag to dry.

2. Stickers. Use star or heart stickers and put them on the eggs before dye them, then pull them off afterwards. Also use maskingtape or other fun stickers to leave different looking shapes.
3. Use even more craft supplies! Pom poms, glitter pens, beads and even ribbon can take your egg decorating to the next level. Make sure you have craft glue handy to secure these items in place
4. Use crayons. Using wax crayons on your eggs is a great way to get unique results. Just draw your design on the hard-boiled egg, and then dip it as you normally would. The dye will not stick to the wax, leaving behind your colored design. Try it with white, silver, and gold crayons—or any color!
5. Get out the watercolors. Once you’ve dyed the eggs with a base color, grab a set of watercolors and light, thin paintbrushes. Paint whatever design you like on the egg! Try a green egg with blue swirls or a yellow egg with pink stars. Encourage your kids to customize an egg this way, and to paint their names on the ones they’ve decorated.
6. Show it off. Use a large clear bowl or pretty basket filled with your decorated eggs as a centerpiece for your spring table. Add some artificial grass to the basket or bowl for a festive touch.
For another way to mix things up, try using both medium-size and jumbo-size eggs. The size differences will create some visual interest. Do you have any great egg decorating tips? Share them here!
