HAMBURGER BUNS!
Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1/2 cup water
half stick of butter
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (.25 oz) package instant yeast
1 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 egg
1/2 cup water
half stick of butter
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (.25 oz) package instant yeast
1 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 egg
I HATE buying the buns from the store- they ruin the PERFECT flavor of the PERFECT burger! So, I prefer homemade buns!! **the best burger recipe coming up today or tomorrow- stay turned!**
**Cook’s Note-When I first made these I was afraid of making them too thin. Wrong thing to worry about! They get nice and fluffy so if you make them too thick you will end up with bread bowls and not buns. Still tasty but, a bit bulky for burgers!**
Directions:
1: In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup water and half of a stick of butter until very warm, about 120 degrees.. Not HOT when you stick your finger in.***THIS IS SO IMPORTANT for the yeast to be able to rise. Too cold won't work. Too hot won't work! It has to be very WARM almost hot to your finger. OK?!
2: In a large bowl, mix together 1 3/4 cup flour, 1 package yeast, 1 TBSP sugar and 1 1/2 tsp salt.
3: Mix milk mixture into flour mixture.... and then mix in 1 egg.
4: Stir in 3 cups flour, **1/2 cup at a time- until that 1/2 cup is all mixed together then add another 1/2 cup.. until all 3 cups are in**
5: When the dough is all mixed together VERY GOOD... spread some flour on a counter.. and put the bread mixture on the counter.
6: Knead (with your hands massage the flour mixture until it is not sticky anymore. Just SMOOTH and elastic.) It will take about 8 minutes of massaging your dough!
7: Spray a BIG bowl with PAM spray! Then, roll the dough into one BIG ball and out it in the bowl. Cover it with a plastic wrap. Put it in a warm place like where the sun is.
8: Let the bowl rest there for about 45 minutes to an hour (longer if you have used regular yeast instead of instant). The dough will rise!!
If it rises it means you have succeeded in making the yeast work! Punch your fist in the middle of the dough to make it go down a little.
9: Now, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll them into smooth balls, and put on a greased(spray with PAM) baking sheet.
10: Use your hands and make the balls a little bit flat like the picture.
11: Cover with a kitchen towel, and leave it alone so it will rise for 15 to 30 minutes.
12: Start the oven at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
